Description (from Gamewornauctions): This home green dureen gamer by General Athletic was worn by goaltender Charlie Hodge during the 1967-68 NHL season, the inaugural year of the Oakland Seals. Hodge appeared in 58 games and posted 3 shutouts and a respectable 2.86 GAA behind a porous first year defense in Oakland while wearing this historic jersey. The game wear on this sweater is terrific and consists of stick and puck marks, smears of goal post paint transfer on the sleeves, hips and back hem, more smears of crossbar paint transfer exist on the back player number and above it just beneath the back neckline, there also exists pilling and some significant team-sewn repair work ranging from the front collar just beneath the eyelets to the hip and hem where some large material backed work has been undertaken. Sewn into the hem of this gamer is the General Athletic tag. The size tag is sewn into the collar with the word “size” still being perfectly legible and intact with the actual size number beneath it being too frayed to make out. The vintage lace remains sewn thru the eyelets while the blue, black, white and lemon and lime greens in the intricate first year crest just scream old time hockey. First year post expansion gamers have always been in high demand throughout our hobbies existence. This first year home green gamer was worn by Charlie Hodge, a two-time Vezina Trophy winning goaltender, and is without much dispute or debate the most important and valuable Oakland Seals game worn jersey extant.

Description (from Gamewornauctions): This spectacular 1st year example shows typical goalie usage that includes stick and puck marks, inner pilling in all of the proper places as well as exterior pilling from Charlie’s goalie gloves at the wrist and extending into the sleeve areas. The general Athletic tag remains sewn perfectly into the hem of this jersey. This sweater measures out to a size 46 which is consistent with Hodge’s 5’6” 150lb. frame.
Provenance (from Gamewornauctions):
This stunning inaugural season Canucks gamer comes to us with the following provenance: it has sat in a private collection for the past 20 years. Said collector acquired this sweater back in 1991 at a card show in Ontario from a dealer who had traveled there from Montreal. Said Montreal dealer represented to the collector that he had obtained this jersey directly from Charlie back in the 1980’s. It is a well-known fact in the hobby that Charlie, who incidentally is a native of Montreal, has sold many items from his collection through the years lending further credence to this important offering. Here is your opportunity to acquire an undisputed 1st year Canucks gamer, which is fresh to market and was worn by a two-time Vezina Trophy winning goaltender, awesome.
