Description: from Classic Auctions: Intriguing style of mask worn by several goaltenders in the late 1970’s and into the 1980’s, this Lefevre-made mask protected Michel Dion, who spent four seasons in Pittsburgh starting in ’81-82. Dion performed admirably that season, appearing in a whopping 62 games and earned front cover status on the Penguins ’82-83 media guide. Four separate photos of Michel wearing this mask are featured on the guide, to be included with this sensational mask. Lined from the nose up with thin black foam, the mask has its original straps and back plate and exhibits plenty of game use with some nice puck marks. Chips and scratches in the black, yellow and white paint reveal some blue underneath from Dion’s previous time with the Quebec Nordiques. Obtained by our consignor from mask painter Jim Kwilos who had acquired it in the late 1980’s, the mask presents a wonderful opportunity for those who have yet to land an example of this interesting style.
